Firefighters battle Tauranga house fire

UPDATE: A fire at a home in Pyes Pa has now been extinguished.

Firefighters from Mount Maunganui, Tauranga and Greerton stations were called to the blaze on Freeburn Rd at 1.45pm.

Greerton station officer Richard Moreland said it was a small fire that started at the back of the house.

He said there was a bit of structural damage.

“The fire is now extinguished and an investigation is underway.”

No one was inside the home at the time and the dog was out as well, Tauranga senior station officer Shane Nelson said.

“It was a small fire that extended through the ceiling space.”

Nelson said it took 12 minutes to get to the scene and seven minutes to contain the fire.
