The Tauranga-based Aerocool Rescue Helicopter is preparing for one of its busiest periods of the year.
Longer days, warmer weather and an influx of visitors to beaches, rivers, bush tracks and lakes mean more people exploring the region – along with a heightened need for rapid emergency response.
No matter what summer brought, from the coast to the backcountry, the Aerocool Rescue Helicopter remained ready to respond when the community needed it most, a spokesperson for the rescue helicopter said.
“Each summer, the rescue helicopter team attends a broad range of missions, including water rescues, serious motor vehicle accidents, medical emergencies in remote locations and urgent inter‑hospital transfers for patients requiring specialist care.
“The helicopter’s ability to reach patients quickly, deliver critical care on scene and transport them to hospital can be lifesaving when every second counts.”
