A recent Tauranga City Council survey has found that repairs are needed in two places to the reclaimed water transfer main pipeline coating.
A section of newly established garden below the cemetery is one location. Plants and mulching will be temporarily moved to allow this work. The other location is in the boat ramp car park below the Aerodrome Bridge. Work is scheduled to commence mid March.
This information from Tauranga City Council weekly bulletin for the week beginning Monday, March 8.
City Waters
Inflow Reduction Project
* A comparison analysis of stormwater infiltration in the Tye Park area of Welcome Bay, the first area to have gully traps checked by council, shows the positive impact of the project on reducing the amount of stormwater getting into our wastewater system and contributing to sewage overflows.
* Approximately Tye Park 800 homes had their gully traps inspected in late 2008. A comparison was made between water volumes entering the wastewater system on two separate days – on 25 October 2008 (before inspections and follow up action) and on 3 October 2009 (after all gully traps had been inspected and fixed). Both days had rainfall of around 12mm within a 24 hour period.
* The data shows that 37 per cent less stormwater entered the wastewater system from this area on 3 October 2009 compared to 25 October 2008. This is a big improvement and shows that gully traps kept at the right height are an important element in managing unnecessary treatment of stormwater entering the wastewater system as well as reducing sewage spills.
* Council is currently carrying out gully trap inspections in the Beaumaris and Bethlehem Heights area, and is pleased to report that the majority of homes visited so far have 'good' gully traps. If you have special property access arrangements or have a dog, please contact us on (07) 577 7000.

Stormwater Pollution:
* No pollution incidents reported to Council this week

The Pollution Prevention team will continue to work with EBOP and the various sites to ensure progress continues.
* An HSTLC meeting was held (incorporating TCC, EBOP, NZFS, NZ Police among others).
