Mount Hot Pools closed

Mount Maunganui Hot Pools is closed for the rest of the day due to an electrical fault.

Tauranga City Council has advised the pools will be closed for the remainder of Friday to allow for repairs on the fault to be undertaken.

Mount Hot Pools is closed for the rest of today.

"At this stage we hope to have the pools open tomorrow but it may be longer depending on how the repair work goes today," says TCC communications advisor Megan Holmes.

An update is expected at the end of the day.

The pools previously shut down over anniversary weekend when an electrical fault shut down the bore pump.

Tauranga City Aquatics Limited CEO Tania Delahunty said the Anniversary weekend fault was an unexpected electrical fault.

The hot pools work by pumping hot salt water from an underground bore to heat exchangers which heat the seawater used in the pools. The pump is below ground at the bottom of the bore.

'We have to appreciate that while we did a lot of work in refurbishment, the bore is an older part so we have now got a hybrid facility there where some of the stuff is brand new and some of it is old,” said Tania at the time.

Can't the Council even run a hotpool?

The hotpools saga has taken on farcical proportions since the bid to redevelop them was abandoned. While I can understand a very occasional problem, it seems like one after another. How much do we pay those responsible for ensuring that basic maintenance is carried out?

Mega millions spent already

How strange, the last two years and more have been plagued by one failure after another, there has been so much time ad money spent and the facilities, plant, reliability have continued on an ever increasing slide into the abyss!

well managed,

and thought out..The part which resides under the ground out of sight , in the most corrosive atmosphere is NOT replaced when millions are spent on an upgrade.....superficial and squandered...just like the rest of the money.... CEO should be replaced by someone with more nous. Hybrid facility....... indeed!! ,don't insult us ratepayers....you just didn't do it properly.

Does it really need a communications advisor

to tell us that the pools may be open tomorrow or it may be longer? Also hasn't every facility got a mix of older parts and replaced parts? Now we've got a word for it anyway, a hybrid facility.
