A Welcome Bay water main that contractors worked on until 2am today after it broke on Sunday has suffered another break in the same place.
Tauranga City Council communications advisor Marcel Currin says parts of Welcome Bay are without water following a break in the 3metre deep watermain.
He says water is expected to be restored to houses no later than 1.30pm.
The water main near the Welcome Bay school ruptured on Sunday morning draining water of the upper streets like Resolution Road, Endeavour Avenue and James Cook Drive.
The main was isolated for repairs at 1pm Sunday and the supply for that area was switched over to another part of the water reticulation system, getting water supply back online for most people within half an hour.
The same process will be used to restore water today while more repairs are made.
