Ngai Tuhoe and the Bay of Plenty Regional have signed an agreement to work more closely together.
The Relationship Protocol was signed this week by Ngai Tuhoe Treaty settlement entity Te Uru Taumatua Chief Executive Kirsti Luke and Regional Council Chief Executive Mary-Anne Macleod.

There will be positive gains for both parties from a collaborative engagement which respects their distinct needs, says Mary-Anne.
'Tuhoe and the Regional Council choose to work together to benefit their communities. We will both be looking to increase opportunities to work on shared goals, projects and initiatives,” says Mary-Anne.
Ngai Tuhoe is one of the largest iwi groups within the Bay of Plenty. The tribe has initialled a Treaty Deed of Settlement and is likely to sign soon. The new Relationship Protocol is outlined in the Deed.
The signing took place at Te Uru Taumatua office in Taneatua, with Regional Councillors and staff and iwi members including former Chief Negotiator Tamati Kruger, Te Hau Tutua and Glen Mitchell, and trustees Max Temara, Patrick McGarvey and Huka (Irene) Williams.
Treaty settlements are significant in the Bay of Plenty where Maori consist of about 27 per cent of the population and own about 33 per cent of the land. The region has at least 36 iwi, more than 200 hapū and more than 260 marae.
Bay of Plenty has also achieved eight comprehensive Treaty settlements, six iwi have signed Deeds of Settlement and another 11 claims are being progressed. Last year the Crown enacted three settlements and several others are likely to be completed this year.

"work on shared goals, projects and initiatives,” says Mary-Anne. I do so hope it is on a shared cost basis too - things like paying tax- paying rates etc
How about some specifics?

Seems to be written in jargon speak. I find it the most annoying kind of writing because I guess many people thinks it says very little, but won't admit it for fear of looking stupid?
Another con job

The mafia are conning the council into thinking there will be a mutual benefit. Us mug ratepayers will not be getting anything for our money.

Carpendeum, Tuhoe paying? come on mate you should know how it works, they muscle in, get paid, cause time and cost for all and in the end all that is added to rates and taxes that "everyone else" pays. There is no hint of "shared costs" come on mate get off the grass on this, it is creating bills and costs for others that is all ... well that is lots!
More racism

'Maori make up 27% of the BOP population but own 33% of the land'. This clearly shows that Maori own and have access to MORE resources than the average citizen. In fact it is even more one sided, as the stated 27% includes those with only a tiny proportion of Maori blood who live outside of the tribal cabals. Thus 33% of BOP land is owned by tribal cabals who make up only a small proportion of the 27% of the population. Yet even this is not enough, they are still 'oppressed' and 'marginalised' and require ever more resources to be provided for them by stealing them from the ever dwindling number that we still have part ownership of.

If Tuhoe people living in a haze want to declare them selves to be an independent and separate nation fine string up a border /frontier fence up at Taneatua Ruatoki through to Lake Waikaremoana and back to Opotiki or thereabouts incorporating the Uraweras all fine and dandy. Revoke their NZ passports and abolish all benefits and good luck and good riddance to them.Bay Regional Council have absolutely no business dealing with Tuhoe on the basis set out because it is racist and separatist to put it mildly.
Amazing

Overall "Maori" are only 16% of the overall population of NZ(Dept of Statistics 2006 Figures). By 2026 it is forecast that "Maori" will be only 10% of the NZ population. Why is so much importance being put on their overall involvement in running local bodies/councils ? If they want to be involved they should put up candidates and get themselves elected as everyone else has to do. Why aren't Asians asked by councils to be involved in the same way as they are also 16% of the NZ population ? Seems very one sided in my opinion.
