Health warnings remain in place for certain estuaries and wetlands around the city after they became contaminated by floodwaters in the torrential downpours recently.
Tauranga City Council is advising people health warnings remain in place for Beach Road, including the Matua foreshore; Fraser Cove, affecting Waimapu Estuary; Third Avenue affecting Waikareao Estuary; Chapel Street/Maxwells Road affecting Waikareao Estuary; Te Maunga Wastewater Treatment Plant wetlands affecting Rangataua Bay.
Pilot Bay is now clear of contamination after it was contaminated by flood waters.
There were six known sewer overflows as a result of the heavy rainfall from Saturday, April 20 to Monday, April 22.
One was at Coronation Park, affecting Pilot Bay. TCC says water quality test results for Pilot Bay are now clear.
Given the rainfall during that weekend was comparable to the 2005 flood event, TCC says the city's upgraded stormwater infrastructure performed extremely well particularly in areas that have caused major issues in the past.
Installation of the floodlight poles at Waipuna Park middle terrace started last week. The top terrace poles will be installed next week.
This from this week's Tauranga City Council weekly bulletin.
