Historic bones found at Pilot Bay

Police are investigating the discovery of what is believed to be human bones at Pilot Bay this afternoon.

The discovery, at the Pilot Bay boardwalk construction site, follows the finding of fish bones and obsidian flakes two weeks ago today.

Tauranga Police could not comment further on the discovery but say it is an "historic find" and more information will be available later this evening.

A SunLive reporter at the scene this afternoon says an unmarked police vehicle sat outside the construction site.

Just like I said they would when they found the other stuff........also wouldn't surprise me if bones are in or near a cooking pit because after all we do know what early Maori did to not only Moriori but also early European

I thought they were only going down 15cm? How deep can they go without hitting the water table?

Reeff, you are so ancient in your thinking. They most probably are your remains from a previous life you lived, as a Maori. No wonder you knew what was there.

Can't deny history, not ancient in thinking, it's called history that actually happened not history that may have happened and got twisted a little bit to suit a few

It Could Be

Perchance these are the remains of the last bureaucrat that voted to spend on unnecessaries in a time of supposed fiscal restraint?

It is simple really, all the forces are saying "don't do the boardwalk" it is a waste of time, money and space, not to mention that no one consulted with the grass ... that have killed, destroyed and taken the home of about 50% of the inmhabitants. I want to put a treaty claim in for them to claim the beach front back ... that never was there at the time but I just want it anyway!

Come on Reeff, actually happened?. Was it written by Maori?. Of course not. There are many more koiwi all over the foreshore at Mt. Maunganui, there are photos at the Tauranga library that show hundreds of koiwi just below Mauao. It could have been an earthquake that buried the village along with all its people. So I repeat whos history are you ranting about. Oh and by the way, the ancient bit was in reference to your blatant racism.

@pomarie So the supernatural strikes again it seems

Earthquakes tsunamis volcanoes what other machinations have you got in your cupboard or should that read skeletons in the closet.A village on the Mount surf beach that is novel take to say the least.Try a feasting frenzy on the beach that seems to be closer to the truth from oral history reports.Close down the whole beach and make it tapu and just watch the public reaction to that. ooloo

Cordoned off the scene inside the prison like fenced compound at PB completely yesterday with screening as well so that skeptical public can't gaze at the "crime" (?) scene. Can however see the mounds of sieved topsoil (not sand)as evidence of what a bloody farce this is.ooloo

HOW ABOUT AN UPDATE THEN

The path to nowhere looks to be again proceeding full steam ahead seems like the historic midden was a piece of nonsense and the ancient bones were proved to be what exactly. It has all gone deathly quiet after it is so easy to make the claims then just shut up when it all proves to be bits of Planet Bongo material !!!
