Mayor Stuart Crosby is on the candidacy trail as he seeks his fourth term as mayor of Tauranga City.
'There is no substitute for experience at this level of leadership. The council, it activities, finances are interrelated and complex,” says the current mayor.
Tauranga City Council Mayor Stuart Crosby.
'My leadership as mayor along with others has already brought us through some challenging times such as the floods of 2005, the economic downturn and the Rena disaster.”
Stuart says the combination of new mayoral powers and a new senior management team at council will provide an opportunity to 'step up a gear” and provide a strong clear direction for our city.
In consultation with the community and the elected members Stuart will confirm a 'new clear vision and plan for the city”.
This will be completed within the first 100 days of 2014 so it can be followed out via council's processes.
'We now have a strong foundation to now work off after considerable investment in our cities basic infrastructure over the last ten years which will continue.
'Now it is time to clearly identify who we are and what we are as one of the leading cities in New Zealand and build city pride.”
Stuart will be releasing more details of what he intends to achieve over the next three years during his election campaign.

We need a strong Leader who will limit spending to infrastructure needs and try to reduce our debt which is spiralling out of control. Someone with Accountancy skills in their CV. Mr Mayor we residents do have "city pride", we love this place but are disillusioned with the ticking time bomb of debt. You seem to think that its ok to keep putting up the Rates. Take a good look around you, a lot of people are struggling - if its not pump prices, its groceries, or power, parking etc, all going up but no wage increases to meet it. It would be nice to live on a Councillors pay.
Hope He Makes A Promise and Keeps It to Listen to Voters!

Stuart has done some good but the biggest problem as I see it is the lack of listening to the people who voted him in. My question to all hope fulls are you going to keep in touch with voters and the real things that people are concerned about. Honest answer and fall on sword if found wanting!
To Dream The Intangible Dream

In seeking a fourth term in office Mayor Crosby is campaigning on a platform of bringing a new vision and direction for the city of Tauranga. Perhaps between now and the election he could enlighten voters as to what he has in mind and just how many ratepayers dollars he intends spending on this intangible dream?
debt

Hey, let's get him in again and see our debt pass the $$ thousand million mark!!
The headline is incorrect!!!

It should read "Crosby runs from Mayor", then again if he gets back in, he at the very least will be held accountable, and not able to run for cover, like a certain past city executive, and not pay any penance, Mr Crosby went to one of "Aunty Helens" retreats, and came back with the same teflon coating, but it is starting to wear off, and some of the s**t is starting to stick, time to walk the walk, we as ratepayers are sick of the talk!!!!.
Time to go

Sorry Stuart you've past your use by date, time to go and let someone who can reign in the cities debt take over.
Hey Stuart

If Mayor Crosby has a "new clear vision for the city" why has he not implemented this already? Words are cheap Mr. Crosby

To Overit I''ve got the accountancy skills and experience you mentioned, to reign in the spiralling debt.

Increase of debt, a claytons reorg of Council costing $2m, promises to upgrade Dive Cre, Harbour Central, The Hotel Site and Devonport Road Properties. JUST DO SOMETHING and if your staff cannot then get new staff.

Did Mr Crosby not say, when he was standing for Mayor, in 2004, that if he was successful he would only serve a maximum of two terms as Mayor, as he believed that after two terms a Mayor is out of ideas. Maybe there is some truth in that statement and this may also be the reason why Presidents of the United States are only permitted to serve a maximum of two terms. Time for a Council that has heaps of vision and new ideas along of course with pride and identity which a Mayor should be displaying every day he is on the job.

You don't realize yourself that they don't even know yet that there is a problem that even exists. Even if they did realize I doubt that the scale of it would even register.

Mike seems to be lashing out at his former master, why would that be?

No Mike, you cant say that, there is about as much substance in Mayor Crosby saying "only serve a maximum of two terms" as you saying "Strong financial Management". Both are bereft of any reality at all.
Crosby running for mayor

'In consultation with the community and the elected members Stuart will confirm a 'new clear vision and plan for the city”. This will be completed within the first 100 days of 2014 so it can be followed out via council's processes. ' Oh yeah. The mayor has had approx 1095 days to make a positive change for Tauranga. Lets look at a couple of the not positives Route K and the huge debt that has been accumulated in his term as Mayor. How would / could it be possible to do in 100 days when so little has been achieved in 1095 days apart from burdening the ratepayers with monumental increases in rates a staggering debt and a failed Route K as a few examples of failure to perform. The last thing Tauranga needs is even another day of the current TCC elected members let alone a fourth term of the current head of the TCC. Alastair Bethlehem

Now that would be a sight to see, and good for all to.
Show us the ideas now?

The " new " vision should be laid out now, not some 100 day confirmation scenario when he's back in power. If he doesn't tell us or know, right now , after 12 years as Mayor what's needed, then I'm afraid he's incompetent and needs to go. We have the 2nd worst debt per ratepayer ratio in the country.....yeah, let's go for 4 more years of that! He is the top man, he's accountable..?
We don't need accountants, lawyers, our City needs integrity first!

Seriously folks, the spiralling debt, the millions flushed away on no-brainer schemes, failed business cases has absolutely nothing to do with an inability to understand a finance spreadsheet and everything to do with integrity. Tauranga City needs elected members who will apply themselves to their role, often in the face of intimidation and bullying, bribes and inducements, without 'fear or favour'. Open and transparent! Folk who live and breath 'applied democracy', seeking to empower our community, rather than their own ego!
Murray called it.

Awesome call Murray, now tell us, who was the face of intimidation and bullying, and who offered the bribes and inducements? I presume you are with out fear or favour, so please name them so the voters know.
