Tauranga City Council's draft policies on freedom camping and management of coastal reserves will be open to public feedback today.
Both issues have attracted a large number of submitters with 43 submissions on the proposed freedom camping bylaw, and 36 submissions on the coastal reserve management plan to be heard in council this morning.
Public hearings on council's proposed freedom camping and coastal reserves management plan will be discussed at council today.
The freedom camping bylaw proposes opening reserves across the city to overnight camping by mobile home owners.
The coastal reserves management plan tightens council control over the beaches and their accesses.
Reserves like Moturiki, Leisure Island, Mount Drury and Pilot Bay also have political/cultural issues involved.

Looks to me that both are being drummed into the public, bulldozed through, citizens pay good money to have a nice home and the last you want then is some bunch of hippy type freedom campers parked on marine Parade. night in night out!

Why is the city council fiddling about with coastal reserves, take a look at todays article regarding Thornton beach camping area. We've enough petty regulation without city council dabbling in it as well.
Public feedback? Yeah right?

Just remember the Annual Plan. We value your submissions, then remember the scorn heaped upon someone who dared question the council line pushed by some councillors. No point in submitting to this I think. Quote from Murray Guy on Sunlive 13.2.2013 "Specifically, Council is looking to open the city up to 'self-contained mobile campers'."
