More than 30 properties in Tauranga's CBD are without power and will be for most of the day while work to upgrade a transformer takes place.

Powerco was initially planning a power outage on Sunday, September 1, but the shutdown was rescheduled to today due to concern from city retailers about the loss of power in the CBD on Fathers' Day.

Powerco Corporate affairs manager Neil Holdom says the power will be shut down from 9.15am and will be reconnected at 3pm today.

'It's in the vicinity of the Tauranga City Council building. There are about 35 properties affected.”

Neil understands the power is being shut down while work to upgrade a transformer next to the TCC building takes place.
