About 200 Hairini homes will be without water until 7pm after complications during a scheduled Tauranga City Council water shutdown.

A council spokesperson says the shutdown was meant to end at 4pm but due to complications it needs to be extended.

Residents can collect fresh water from a water tanker parked between numbers 20 - 30 Haukore Street.

He says the shutdown was for scheduled maintenance.

Properties affected are:

1 to 17 Hairini Street, 4 to 6 Hairini Street, all of Haukore Street, all of Wickham Place, all of Tuamata Place, all of Tamahika Street
