Waihi Beach residents' desire for the authority of their town to be transferred to the Hauraki District Council from the Western Bay of Plenty District Council is one step closer as the Local Government Commission calls for submissions on the proposal.
Bowentown, Waihi Beach.
If the Commission decides to proceed with the proposal, it also has scope to transfer the Waihi Beach ward area from the Bay of Plenty to the Waikato.
The proposal was initiated by a petition signed by over 10 per cent of the electors living within the area of the Waihi Beach ward.
The Western Bay of Plenty District, Hauraki District and the regional councils Environment BOP and Environment Waikato agreed in February to refer the matter to the LGC for consideration and decision making.
