Tauranga City Council will discuss a redesign of its parking ticket warning notices after a customer service notice upset a motorist.
The woman owner found a ticket on her car windscreen on Thursday that appears to be for an unregistered vehicle.
A friendly warning looking like a $200 ticket.
The car is registered until Sunday, and she had already purchased a new registration.
It was an upsetting experience, especially as she didn't initially see the writing along the bottom of the ticket stating it was a warning notice.
City transportation manager Martin Parkes concedes it does look like an infringement notice, but it's intended as a friendly reminder.
'It's not our plan to go out and give tickets to people if we can give them a bit of a heads up that their rego is coming up for renewal,” says Martin.
'It's part of the customer service. We just want to give people a bit of a heads up, that if they forget they could potentially get a ticket.
'We are trying to be customer-focused. We are not out to try and upset anybody. We are trying to improve the customer focus of the parking side of the business.”
Martin says there is no intention to cause distress and the warning is intended to alert people to the fact there registration is coming up.
'It's just a really a friendly reminder that's what it should be.”
Martin says they will discuss a re-design of the warning notice next week.
'It does look like an infringement notice, that's something we can look at as part of our normal business,” says Martin.
The notices are printed out of the ticket printer and contain the same information as a ticket, giving vehicle year, make and model, plus the fact the infringement will attract a $200 fine.

Here we have so-called skilled employees of council who can't even design a ticket! What's so hard about changing the wording to A FRIENDLY REMINDER???? How on earth can Parkes remotely think that a heading 'Warning Notice” is tantamount to 'A Friendly Reminder?”

For goodness sake, I can see the words warning notice on the TOP and Bottom of the ticket No need to re design the notice at all. and if the person had displayed the rego sticker she says was bought earlier she would not have got a warning in the first place!!!
Waste of resources

We already get friendly reminders from the LTSA why do council see the need to duplicate this?
Staff are wasting my rates

It is not TCC business to issue warnings for rego's that have not expired. Sounds like job creation to me and I'm a councillor.
Registration

I bet our councilors do not even know this is happening. We already get notification from the powers to be is this another way of Mr Parkes trying to justify his employment or that of his so called inspectors?
Maybe!!!!

Mr Parkes should get a warning notice attached to his forehead reminding him and his staff,of their responsibilities, and you wonder what would of happened if they where given the licence to inspect tread depth.
Obviously not busy enough

Are there really no more pressing things the council could be focussing on?

Why should I have to display my new rego sticker when I still have 4 days to go. Under the wiper the ticket actually reads "OFFENCE: USED AN UNLICENSED MOTOR VEHICLE" which is untrue.
Council Stupidity

The initial look of the notice is a ticket, so not very friendly at all. If the council want to be ratepayer friendly, don't issue friendly reminders, if our vehicles are legal we don't need to be reminded. Most of us have commonsense. Why waste more money and time re-designing a friendly reminder? Ditch it! If the council want to be friendly, reduce the number of wardens, reduce the cost to park and perhaps the shop's may benefit by more patronage. This function of council is not required.
Dumbing down

One person complains so let's change things. Give us a break. Stop pandering to minorities and dummies.
Unwanted

Just because we buy our rego a couple of days in advance then it is up to me to display it when it is due. Your right Mohio, we do get reminders in the mail from LTSA and when and if I happen to park my car in town with no WOF then a ticket is justified. After all that is what we pay the TCC to police. Otherwise "parking wardens" please leave my car alone.

maybe you should get off the hospital board and make time for the job you were voted in to do, if not resign from council, to me you are double dipping and seems funny how you become a Councillor and then get a job on the trust board, during the election i found you cant even follow election rules i have a number of photos of your car conveniently parked at peak traffic times in a number of locations!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I know!

They could put pretty little love hearts on the stickers! More labour intensive, more justifying bums on seats, oh, I mean feet on streets. TCC wardens should not be able to deviate from original brief, parking wardens. Gail McIntosh is right.
And,

who's paying for the stuff up in design, more labour? Doh, the ratepayer! Time someone was held accountable for that, take it out of his pocket.
not their job

Like you, I hide behind a pseudonym, but try not to make personal attacks, and would really like to see these stop before going any further. Having said that, I am not defending Gail, nor do I believe she needs it. Sad to realise that people take photos of the type you mention though. And my bet would be many councillors around the country and beyond double dip, as you put it. There are a great number in this town alone, and not only on the council. Gail would just be a baby in the stakes, nothing unusual about people being on numerous boards/trusts. Some of them actually do a great deal of good.

FYI Gail was almost caught a few times and she would have been fined i think $5,000 for each offense including Mike as her counterpart, just to point she maybe small fry but if someone cant follow rules how do you trust them with the reins >>>?
parking wardens take photos too..

I had a jumped up warden taking photos of me (yes me) and the license plate of the car I was the driver of. I had pulled over to the side of the road where cars park parallel to the road. Admittedly my parking wasn't very pretty. I stopped, got out and my passenger took the driver seat. It was all over in a matter of seconds. It wasn't peak hour or a busy street. This meter-man appeared to seize the opportunity saying I had committed an infringement. When I asked him to repeat what he said, he pulled a camera out and started taking photos of me and the license plate of the vehicle and made notes. It really made me curious. He looked pleased with himself, almost gratified. When onlookers gave him a few boo's he soon walked away tail between his legs but got to wonder
