A new speedway promoter is being sought for Baypark Speedway following the recent resignation of speedway manager Roger Bailey.
Bay Leisure and Events Ltd has about three months to getting things up and running before the new stockcar season starts in late October.
Stock car Brent Hayes leads 94M Scott Hayward at Baypark Speedway last year.
'We are in the business now of determining exactly what we need to do to get ourselves organised for speedway for the coming season,” says BLEL commercial manager Ervin McSweeney.
'We are moving into action immediately, we will be seeking expressions of interest from people who wish to be involved with speedway with us, or wish to put a proposal to us for their involvement with speedway, so we hope to move on that as quickly as possible.”
Instead of advertising for Roger's replacement, BLEL is instead seeking expressions of interest from people interested in an expanded role.
'There's various ways speedway has operated here, and one of the things we would wish to consider is a model where someone becomes the speedway promoter. That has been a model used here,” says Ervin.
'There's lots of places round the country where it gets done like that, so we wish to see if there are people interested in operating that way.
'It is a model that can work. And obviously we will be trying to balance that up against whether we carry on and remain the promoter ourselves.”
Calling for EOIs provides BLEL with an opportunity to test the water on alternatives.
The letter seeks expressions of interest for a promoter interested in what is regarded as one of the best speedway tracks in the country with a fast, wide track and stadium seating for 15,000.
The track currently contracts 130-140 drivers each season, which runs from October to May with 20 events being able to be scheduled during that time.
While the way the role is structured is not fixed, interested parties are reminded they should understand this will be a commercial arrangement and they need to provide a solid commercial understanding and resource.
