Clayton claims No.6 spot

Tauranga City councillor and NZ First candidate for Tauranga Clayton Mitchell has been ranked six on the party's list released today.

The Mount Maunganui resident was voted to stand as the party's Tauranga candidate during a last minute meeting held in July, winning the candidacy over two others.

Clayton Mitchell has claimed No.6 spot on the NZ First party list.

Clayton says his high ranking on the party list has come as great news.

'I'm absolutely rapt, it's a great position to be in and I think it's fantastic for Tauranga,” he says.

'My ranking gives a strong indication of how important the people of Tauranga are for this NZ First electorate.”

Five per cent of the party vote in this year's election on September 20 will give NZ First seven seats in the house, bringing Clayton into Parliament.

But he predicts the party will gain more than the minimum five per cent.

'If you go back to the 2011 Election, three weeks out I think we were around the 2 percent mark, and ended up getting 6.5 percent that year.”

'Both National and Labour generally poll higher, then come down on election day, so that puts us in a very good position I think.”

This is the current councillor's first time standing for central government as he says it has taken him a long time to enter politics.

'The surprise really is how quickly your world can change from running businesses to being involved in the running of Government.

'As far as my list position, I am very pleased but not surprised how important Tauranga is to NZ First.”

Clayton believes his ranking will help bring positive changes for Tauranga and is relishing his chance to make a difference.

His message for Tauranga locals – make sure you are registered to vote.

'This election is one of the most, if not the most important, election that we have had in the last two decades.”

The 25 on this list are from a total of 31.

"Controversial MP Andrew Williams' career appears to be over after his name was left off NZ First's list". From Stuff.co.nz - It seems that Winston First acolytes are able to hide so well that they can completely disappear from the next line up for seat warmers duty. Make sure that you do as you're told or it's off with your head. Who now thinks that it isn't Winston FIRST.

Sweet!!!

you are in, so now get out of local body politics, resign forthwith!!!!, and reimburse ratepayers your Council stipend received while "electioneering" for higher honours.
