Hire firm hunt for TCC head

Tauranga City Council is advertising in Wellington's Dominion Post newspaper for recruitment companies to register expressions of interest in finding it a new chief executive.
A replacement is being sought for current chief executive Stephen Town who resigned in July to take up a position with the New Zealand Transport Agency in Auckland.

Mayor Stuart Crosby says selecting a new chief executive is the most important decision this and the future council is likely to make and finding the right recruitment company to search for the right candidates is vital.
"That's why we are being so cautious," says Stuart.
The Dominion Post advertisement says the council is seeking expressions of interest from "suitably experienced" companies.

It also states companies considered to be the most suitable for the task will be invited to submit to a Request For Proposal (RFP) process and a final selection will be made from the RFP applicants.
Stuart says while it might seem a convoluted process to some, the 'two step' selection process conforms with well established procurement processes.
"There are a lot of companies specialising in executive searches and we want one that can be viewed as a respected company.
"Once we have analysed the proposals, staff will shortlist some and council will select one company from that group - and I hope there will be interviews by the end of the year."
The mayor says interim chief executive Christine Jones is very capable and there is no need to hasten the search process.
