Marra Construction 2004 Ltd is awarded the tender to build a new Community Centre at Arataki.
Marra Construction's design/build price of $1,725, 540 is the lowest of the three design/build tenders evaluated.
All the tenders submitted were of very high standard, says city services manager Ian McDonald.
This big air space will be less once the new Arataki Community Centre is built.
The design from Marra stands out for its competitive price and a detailed response to the design brief.
"It is a very functional design which very closely meets the requirements of the brief," says Ian.
The design requirements are based on extensive community feedback gathered by the Arataki Community Advisory Group.
Community engagement included a regular newsletter and a community gala day held in March that was attended by over 2000 people.
"We are thrilled for the Arataki community because it will now get its heart and soul back through a safe gathering place. It has been a very stimulating process, very consultative, with people prepared to listen to each other," says Arataki Community Advisory Group member Marie Gilpin.
Construction is expected to begin on the site between Baywave and the ambulance station in January 2011, with the new centre expected to open in mid 2011.
