Flight school in receivership

Helicopter firm Helipro NZ is believed to be in receivership, and the company's Tauranga flight school has been closed.

A note on the door of the premises this morning advises people to contact international accountancy firm Price Waterhouse Coopers, while a security guard is preventing the flight school's students from entering the building at Tauranga Airport.

Though their website remains live, SunLive's attempts to contact Helipro NZ ceo Mitchell Easton in Palmerston North have so far been unsuccessful, but a receptionist says details will be passed on to the receivers.

Price Waterhouse Cooper's Auckland office has confirmed that an announcement will be made shortly.

Helipro operates a fleet of 35 red helicopters across the country catering for a range of different sectors, and has offices in Rotorua, Taupo, Palmerston North, Wellington, Christchurch, Greymouth and Mount Cook as well as Tauranga. They employ around 70 staff.

Stuff is reporting PwC partners John Fisk and David Bridgeman are appointed as receivers to Rick Lucas Helicopters Ltd and related entities which trade as Helipro, at the request of the companies' director.

Fisk and Bridgeman say they have not determined the full extent of creditor claims. They will work with staff and management to find the best way forward for the company, which could include selling it as a going concern either in part or as a whole.
