Tauranga City Council's financial reporting system appears to be in good condition following Audit New Zealand's latest assessment.
The organisation has given the council three 'excellent' ratings and one 'pass'.
The council received an 'excellent' for its LTCCP framework and measures requiring a long-term focus.
It also received an excellent for its financial systems, management and strong management control environment - and another top mark for the completeness of the annual report.
The 'pass' was for reporting.
Council communications manager Elizabeth Hughes says the reporting system is a subject of ongoing debate.
The auditor marks on the statutorily-required annual report, whereas the council focuses its public communication on the summary presented to the public.
Hamilton City Council is better with its reporting.

"EXCELLENT" X 3 for reporting FAIL for what is reported, WHERE HAS THE MONEY GONE …. I am amazed Liz Hughes can even find the reports based on the statements made in thE paper to date!
Audit excellence

Audit excellence was noted as the sums added up and the staff were accomodating. The audit process is ONLY about meeting reporting standards and has absolutely no bearing on the ability of ratepayers to pay, on value received.

It's odd how this has come out just before the election. Like the reversal of decision on summer cocerts at the Mount. Mayor and Councillors must think voters are stupid. Jeez Wayne !!!

This latest Audit NZ 'warm fuzzy report' was based on TCC TCVL TCAL &TCIL unaudited and unchecked financial accounts so lets hear again at the end of OCTOBER 2010 shall we.TAURANGA has rising debt sky high rate increases & plenty of non productive loss making 'think big' schemes in the pipeline and yet some gullible bean counter thinks everythings rosy in the garden -well I have bad news for you its not Jack!!!

Another example that you can't trust any auditor, any rating or any statistic. These purveyors of exploitation, who think they can pull a quick one on us, are paid henchmen for the bureaucratic machine, a machine that has refined systemic abuse of rates in order to ensure its own usurping existence. This whole gang ‘administrating' us can actually feel really lucky that we still live in a democracy to vote them out of office. There were times that dealt with scalawags in different manner.

Ignore the window dressing check out the product itself.Auditing in isolation proves nothing and in this case it looks like all the accounts are still unaudited What is being looked at is the form rather than the substance.Solution is a full audit of the bureaucracy itself plus an examination of all financials by an independant forensic accountant.Very interesting that not one person on this blog thinks every thing is rosy in the garden.
