A Tauranga woman will go head-to-head with city council animal control officers tomorrow in a hearing to prevent the enforced removal of her dog.
The council wants to move Leanne Leonard's Shar-Pei cross following 27 complaints about his barking from ten different complainants over the last nine months.

Leanne, who works from her Jonathon Street home, denies that 14-month-old Blue is the culprit and insists that other dogs are to blame.
The first complaint about his barking was made when Blue was an unregistered puppy living in Welcome Bay.
The dog was put behind bars in May 2014 when he was found roaming and unregistered, but was released once fees and registration had been paid.
Council staff then discovered the dog had moved after receiving a complaint about a barking dog in Jonathon Street on July 30.
Leanne was sent a letter along with a brochure offering information on how to discourage a barking dog.
The complaints continued, and another letter was sent on August 13. An abatement notice was also issued, requiring Leanne to take steps to reduce the barking which some complainants say goes on for more than an hour at a time.
A notice to permanently remove Blue was issued on October 21.
'The objector has not accepted that her dog is barking and has taken no responsibility to reduce the complaints,” says the hearing report.
'The complainants are situated all around her property and identify this property and dog as the cause.”
Council animal control staff say Blue is a loud, persistent barker and a nuisance.
Leanne objected to the notice and Blue's future residential address will be decided by the hearing's panel, chaired by Matt Cowley with commissioners Steve Morris and Bev Edlin.

BARKING MAD

In Hammond Street, we had 6 dogs in 3 houses below me who constantly barked. This disrupted our neighbours sleep for more than two years....I contacted the NZTA landlords, who as landlords for the properties, because of tunnel, admitting that there should ONLY have been one dog at each property....I requested a hearing, as I had copious quantities of video, but nah, too much trouble for them....People do not realise what barking dogs do to the quality of your life....they go to work and don't hear them...It is NOT the dogs fault....One was recused from the pound, and had separation anxiety disorder and two bordered the walkway at the bottom of Hammond St, so barked all the time....Those dogs NEVER left the property, which should have been an offence in itself. I hope the neighbours get some peace....everyone is entitled to live in their own home IN PEACE.

Irresponsible Dog owners

When you have a dog it is a commitment. They need a lot of exercise and if you aren't prepared to do this you shouldnt have one. I have a dog I get up at 5.30am and take that dog for a walk before I go to work. The dog is then locked in the house till I get home. Of course a dog will bark in town if it sees people approaching its property. Its only natural for them to do this. It is up to the ownenr to see this doesn't happen.

We have a barking dog problem in Matua and I understand the offenders owners have been asked to do something about it - but so far no change - it seems to me that the dogs are all right while the owners are nearby but once they leave the property for work or whatever then the poor dog(s) start anguish barking which is neither any good for the animal or those nearby neighbors that have to put up with it.
Dog lovers?

So many bored dogs left in the yard getting zero exercise, barking at anything that moves. A nation of dog lovers? Yeah, right. These types of dogs are merely a status symbol for people who are as dumb as their dogs.

Well, videoing dogs, is just going to make them bark more! Dogs are territorial and protect there surrounds. Even a person videoing them is going to aggravate them. Some people don't think, and Kiaor2u, you are obviously one!
Your mutt not mine

Yeah good one KiwiSteve, because having to video them as proof is the issue here. Nice one. Many dog owners are like some adults, shouldn't have children or dogs, apparently can't look after either very well. If your going to have a dog its your responsibility for it not to become everyone else problem. So many rude, ignorant people about who think their precious little mutt can bark and disrupt as it pleases. Take them down I say.
Different Take

Unregistered, roaming, says it all. It is the owner's future that should be being considered. Wonder if the dog gets out for walks. Probably not. I agree with What Now. Dogs are a committment. They need love, proper care and daily exercise. If they are treated well and with respect, these problems would not occur.

There is a surgical procedure that can be performed called DE BARKING this is done by a qualified veterinary surgeon. Then the other alternative is TRAINING!!!! Teach the dog not to bark unnecessarily or better still attend a dog obedience. course. Very simple!!!
