Public notification to go out Jan

An application to subdivide land at New Chum Beach – Wainuiototo Bay in Whangapoua will go out for public notification on Friday, January 16, 2015.

Submitted in October, processing of the application has been delayed after the Thames Coromandel District Council Planning Team requested further information from the applicant.

Council planning manager Michael Jones says the applicant has now provided council with the requested information.

'While we had hoped to publicly notify pre-Christmas, with council offices closing and people away over the summer holidays, we feel it is more appropriate to notify the application in January.

'After Christmas we will have a full quota of staff to deal with submissions coming in.”

Michael says the applicant has agreed to the notification of their application in January and the notification period will run for 20 working days, so will close on Friday, February 13.

The new application for development at New Chum has been made by Ross and Deidre Mear and is for the exact same piece of land on which a previous application was lodged in January 2014 by Coastal Land Trust Holdings.

The application by Coastal Land Trust Holdings, which is a separate identity, is currently on hold due to further information being sought from the applicant.

It has been made aware that a new application has been lodged.

'The latest application is for a four lot subdivision, all 15 hectares in size, together with a fifth ‘beach conservation lot', 1.2hectares in size,” says Michael.

'The beach lot is proposed as a conservation area allowing for public access along the beach.”
