The Thames-Coromandel District Council announced today it will install a flush system in the public toilet block at Tapu on the Thames Coast.
Work will begin next week to back-engineer the existing toilet block, which had been converted into a dry vault (non-flushing) toilet back in 2010.

In the process, the Parks team will be improving the Tapu Fire Service's water tank to make it possible to secure a water source for the toilet.
Local sub-contractors Thames Drainage and Digging will be putting in a mini-treatment system with an effluent trickle irrigation system onto a raised planted bed.
They will be installing a system by Tauranga-based Ecocycle, selected after the Parks team put out for expressions of interest last August to specialist companies approved to do this kind of work.
There will be a point when the toilet won't be able to be used, so at the time a portaloo will be on site until the work is finished and the new flushable toilet will be opened for use.
