Library's porte cochere to be removed

Users of the Thames District Library are being asked to use the Sealey St entrance while work is carried out on the building next week.

Starting on Monday contractors will be removing the porte cochere, or overhanging porch, back to the poles and the work is expected to be finished within 10 days.

'The porte cochere has been damaged on multiple occasions when vehicles don't accurately judge the clearance height,” says Thames Area manager Greg Hampton. 'The damage doesn't appear to be much, but it will only take so many hits before it becomes really unsafe.”

Library users will still be able to access the car park off Mackay Street it's suggested people use caution when entering the car park.

This is mostly for the safety of the contractors working on the building, says Greg.

'The disruption should only be temporary and we thank you in advance for your patience.”
