Sewer overflow at Memorial Park

Tauranga City Council is advising people keep away from the water frontage of Memorial Park after a small sewer overflow on 11th Avenue.

Memorial Park.

The council is reporting the overflow was caused by a fat build-up in a pipe that eventually blocked it.

The impact to the estuary is believed to be low, but it is still advisable to avoid contact with the water.

Health warning signs are in place at the affected site.

Water quality test results are due on Friday afternoon.

No matter how low the risk is, it is not acceptable that overflow happens. Children and dogs are at risk, not to mention marine life. Why does it take until Friday to get results?

bring on the southern pipeline

people this a just a wee taste of things to come if the city doesnt pull finger on the southern pipeline. not a sexy topic I know, but forget about all your flashy, nice-to-have amenities if there's sewage spilling in the streets. tga needs to get its priorities right.
