Tauranga City Council is reporting its water quality test results at Memorial Park are all clear following a blockage and sewer overflow on Thursday.
Water quality testing following an overflow event takes a minimum of 18 hours to complete as samples must be left to develop before accurate results can be read.
The results show the area is safe again following the minor overflow.
This information from Tauranga City Council weekly bulletin for the week beginning Monday, November 15, published below.
City Waters
Water Supply
- The issues associated with bringing the Cambridge #2 reservoir back online (that resulted in discoloured water affecting areas in the Judea, Otumoetai and Matua during last week) have now been investigated. Extensive flushing was carried out at the time discolouration occurred and the reticulation was back to normal by late afternoon the same day. The reservoir is still empty and it is envisioned it will be brought back online early next week.
- Inspections and maintenance have been completed on the Cambridge Road and Kaitemako Road Reservoirs. Due to the issues noted above, both Cambridge #2 and Kaitemako reservoirs are being kept offline.
- Due to a PRV malfunction, properties in the Pyes Pa area experienced low pressure on Wednesday afternoon/Thursday morning.
- City Waters staff are keeping a close eye on reservoir levels due to seasonal increases in water usage.
Drainage
- Some good news to report on the stolen street sumps from last week: a local scrap metal recycler phoned police to advise they had all the sumps grates and also the details of the people who dropped them off. The police are now following up on the details provided by the scrap dealer. A total of 22 street sump grates were recovered.
Waiari Water Supply Project:
- Design of the access road to the intake and the design of the intake is being done at present.
Inflow Reduction Programme
- Follow up inspections are continuing in areas already visited.
City Projects
- The existing hall at Grenada Park will be farewelled by the Arataki Sports Club from midday on Saturday, November 13 with kapahaka, memorial rugby games, sausage sizzle and more.

- The 37 waterfront car parks closest to the harbour in the Northern Strand Reclamation car park are being removed this month. The area will get a quick makeover to make it more accessible and attractive for walking and cycling. New public seating will be installed. The occupancy level for these car parks is extremely low. The removal of these car parks has been discussed with Mainstreet and attendees of the Waterfront Open days on the Kestrel.
- The following items are about to be advertised in the Bay of Plenty Times as part of the statutory consultancy process required before submitting a formal report to council in the new year.

Wait for the "REAL" biggy, bet that in the next 50 years that the pipe will break somewhere along the lenght of it, most likely will then end up in the tide, then sweeping in and out with the tides throughout all the tidial and coastal areas. Just need a little earthquake like Christchurch.
