Out with the old in with the new

The plans for the new Arataki Community Centre are expected to be approved on Wednesday afternoon in one of the first acts of the new Tauranga City Council.

Designs of the new Arataki Community Centre.

This is to take place while demolition of the old community centre in the Grenada Reserve proceeds.

Marra Construction is the council's contractor for the $3.25 million design and build project.

The expected approval means detailed designs can be submitted for the building consent process with construction expected to begin in the new year.

Great news that the Community Centre is going ahead early next year. This approval following so close after the upgrade to Bayfair Shopping Centre is another positive step in the rapid upgrading of Arataki. Well done TCC. Max Lewis.Mt Maunganui.

The snowball begins ...

The total price is in the region of $2.75 million with a target completion July 2011. $300,000 or so operational cost per year. The snowball begins. We now have Welcome Bay Community heading down the samec expectation pathway! I suggest Merivale is equally worthy - and on it goes!

Nice looking centre but how are you going to keep the taggers away, one idea that seem to work for Supercheap in Tauranga is to have a sprinkler bar along the building and when anyone comes to close to the wall they are sprayed with water,it is switched on when they leave the building. Worth a try.

THE BOYS WILL HAVE SOMETHING TO DO AGAIN

Well I guess a new building will mean that the locals will have something new and claen to paint on randomly ... New Doors to kick in ... The design is flawed, in the area and because of the area it needs to be a concrete box, then it may last a little longer.

Cost $2.7 million = GONE Interest each year $210,000 = GONE (increases every year. Cost to run $300,000 a year = GONE Yes Murray if everyone wants one then that will eamn that there will be 20 of them, each one betetr (cost more) than the last, eventually they will want to put one in TIMBUKTOO ! NB: TIMBUKTOO is a "back water" in Niger, boardering on the Sahara desert ... has a ring of destiny about it somehow.

When last Council pushed through Arataki CENTRE and awarded contract to Marra (a CITY PARTNER) said to be urgent so much so looks like final plans are just being approved now.Question is how could it be quoted without final plans.Centre at $3.25m is twice what should be spent and looks to be rewarding self inflicted destructiveness. Blatant electioneering at its worst
