It was an action-packed night at Baypark Family Speedway overnight, with 20 Midget-class cars tearing up the terracotta track for the speedway's first North Island Midget Championships.

Baypark Family Speedway promoter Bernie Gillon says it was ‘pretty exciting' with 20 cars competing in four heats and a final round, which was won by current NZ champion Brad Mosen.

Hayden Williams placed second, with Brock Maskovich in third.

'They put on a really great display,” says Bernie. 'Brad just continued his run of success.”

Bernie says the Sprint Cars dished up a bit of controversy in the feature race, with James Dahn winning the race by half a lap and relegated back to second place for passing Jamie McDonald on the grass.

'There was 12 Sprint Cars in that feature race. It was an awesome display.”

The Mini Stocks also took to the track, with Ash Henstock taking out first place, Xavier Simmons in second and Matt Neilson in third.

In between races, Bernie says spectators enjoyed the T-shirt canon which fired free Baypark T-shirts into the crowd. 'That got the crowd pumping.”
