Does Tauranga need its own dog park?

Dog owners are uniting under one common goal – to get a dog park for Tauranga.

Submissions have been filed with the Tauranga City Council for a designated dog park to be put somewhere in the city.

Tauranga Dog Park committee member Mel Osborn says there are a number of different areas they are looking at as an ideal location for such a park.

'At the moment we are looking very closely at Judea Park, and everyone else has other areas: the reserve opposite Fraser Cove, Faulkner Park.”

but dogs pay rates by way of a registration by responsible owners, so why should they not have a playground, also have you seen the "crap" in the form of litter and discarded food around picnic areas in our Council funded parks?, left by inconsiderate humans!!!!, Tauranga dog control policy has not "gone to the dogs" that is for sure, and it is well time instead of just money grabbing ,some sort of consideration was given to dog owners, Councillor Steve should be on to this to save his precious Papamoa being turned into a port-a-loo!!!

Super idea

Great idea. There are lots of dog owners here in Tauranga and it would be great to have an exclusive area for you to not only take your dog for a walk and meet like minded people but the place could be used for dog agility courses and training and other fun things you can do with your dog like a swimming pool. And maybe possibly a pet cemetery. Just a suggestion.

Keep them in a dog park, and keep them off the beaches. We are over being set upon by straying unleashed dogs on the beach when walking, or down there with the kids, who are terrified of the dogs jumping up at them.

It is a shame that there are some dog owners out there that ruin it for the rest of us that do clean up after our dogs when they foul on public property!! A dog park is long overdue in Tga

Theres nothing worse then sittin down in a nice beutiful park setting to have a family picnic, only to watch some dog poo just in front of you!Not to mention when the dog comes up to your table and begs for food...I agree dogs should have a seperate park, there is a large reserve on Ohauiti Rd that would be perfect.
