WANTED: youth job opportunities

The Thames-Coromandel District Council is working in partnership with community agencies to identify and create job opportunities for youth in the region.

To find out more about the needs of youth, employers and training providers, the council has recently created surveys targeted at the three groups to help them understand the gaps.

As part of the partnership council and agencies will share information to identify and eliminate gaps in employment for the district's young people.

There are three surveys available online: Youth Employment Survey, Employer Survey, and Not for Profit Organisation Survey.

Surveys need to be completed by next week on Friday, April 17.

'We encourage you to either fill them out or pass them on to someone you know who could benefit from the information we get, and actions that come from the results.”

On top of this partnership, council says an exciting initiative for employers and young people is also coming to the Peninsula to address local skills shortages and youth unemployment.

Following successes in Hamilton and Matamata, Smart Waikato Trust's Futureforce Action Network will be launched in the Coromandel in a fortnight.

The free event will take place at Thames Toyota on Jellicoe Cres in Thames on Wednesday, April 29, from 5.30pm to 7.30pm.

'Keep an eye out for stories in local media and emails from Smart Waikato, including your invitation to the event.

'We fully support this initiative and hope to see you at Toyota on April 29.”
