The Coromandel-Colville Community Board have contributed $20,000 towards the repairs of the Coromandel Citizens Hall.
Formerly the St George's Convent School, the works are focused on making the building safe to use and follows a number of small refurbishments carried out over the past three years.

Past works include storm water diversion, replacement of the western wall and replacement of some of the roof sheets above the toilet area.
Improvement of the roof rainwater collection and painting the face of the building was also done.
Coromandel-Colville Community Board chair John Walker says the $20k contribution has renewed interest in the building.
'[It has] instilled a sense of confidence that the building is valued and will be retained by council.”
Last year an inspection was done on the building to help the Thames-Coromandel District Council revise work priorities and timeframes for the hall.
The top priority is making the building safe for use, followed by general tidy-up repairs, maintenance and painting of the interior of the hall which will return the building to its former character.
The Coromandel Senior Settlement Trust has granted $25,000 in the coming financial year to upgrade the hall's ablution block
The trust has indicated it would look favourably at providing further funding in the following financial year toward other work like refurbishment of the kitchen or heating of the hall.
The Coromandel Patchwork & Quilters Club, a regular user of the hall, have also generously donated $1,000 – generated from raffling one of their quilts – to also go towards refurbishment works.
'We are very pleased with the donations received so far,” says John, 'and will welcome any donations for the hall, not just monetary donations, but skilled voluntary labour as well.”
