If your Fido or Lassie is not registered then you best pop down to your local Thames-Coromandel District Council office today.
Over the next two months compliance officers will be out and about surveying 700 properties throughout the district to locate any unregistered dogs that are not on council's database.

This is an annual campaign leading up to the new registration year on July 1, and there's currently 4,503 dogs registered on the database and no known unregistered dogs.
Council says it's the highest number of dogs registered in recorded history and this ongoing, annual campaign is considered the reason behind their 100 per cent registration success rate.
'Owners of dogs that are located as not being registered will be required to register the dog immediately or the dog may be seized and impounded under section 42 of the Dog Control Act 1996.
'Penalty fees will apply to the annual registration fee and owners may also be liable for a $300 infringement for failing to register a dog aged over three months.
'Our Compliance Officers are also currently visiting the owners of all dogs classified as either menacing or dangerous to ensure owners comply with the conditions of the classification.”
There are currently 10 dogs classified as dangerous and 53 classified as menacing. The majority of dogs classified as menacing are breeds such as American Pit Bull Terriers.
If your dog is three months old or more they must be registered, and if it's currently registered then July will be the month to update his or her registration for 2015-16.
'We'll know which dogs are up to date with their registrations as our records are updated when dog registration is paid and by the colour of the tag they're wearing.
'So make sure you've paid up and your dog is proudly wearing the new tag.”
All dogs, excluding some exemptions, must also be micro chipped if they were registered after July 2006.
The registration tag belongs to the dog, not the owner. So if you sell or give away your dog, the tag must go with it as proof of registration. Replacement tags are available free of charge.
