Think you have a great idea for a community event, but no money to get it off the ground?
Community organisations have until June 30 to apply for up to $15,000 from Tauranga City Council's Community Events Fund.

Tauranga Mayor Stuart Crosby says the $50,000 fund aims to support events that connect the community, celebrate Tauranga's diversity, make the most of the city's beautiful surroundings and are environmentally responsible.
'If you've got an amazing community event in mind but not the financial backing to get it up and running, that's what Tauranga City Council's Community Events Fund is for,” says Stuart.
'Together with our communities, we want to bring a broader range of events alive to celebrate our talented and innovative city full of opportunity, great spaces and places.”
The funding criteria have changed this year, to help get new creative and innovative events off the ground. Community groups can apply for two different amounts of funding; up to $3000 and up to $15,000.
Council's communications advisor Viktoria Ermes says council strives to maintain a strong relationship with its communities and is expecting the applications to roll in after strong interest last year.
In 2014, council funded 21 events out of 35 applicants – boasting a variety of events from community, cultural, sporting and youth groups.
Events included the inaugural Generation Homes Women's Triathlon, which saw close to 500 participants of all ages and fitness levels complete a 400m swim, 10km bike and 4km run/walk either individually or in teams.
Another was 100% Summer Without Substance - a city wide initiative which developed a series of activities for young people in Tauranga Moana promoting a positive message that encourages young people to enjoy their lives substance free.
This mobile project is taken to locations throughout the region and includes activities such as boxing, basketball, volleyball, touch rugby, a mobile gym and art workshops.
Participants are encouraged to be active and healthy and to stay away from alcohol and drugs.

and a total of $50,000, where is the rest of the $3.45m odd that TCC spends each year? this is a poultry amount of the total?
Ratepayers Womens Triathlon more like it?

As good as the example of the Generation Homes Womens Triathlon may be, shouldn't the funding come from the name sponsor? If the council is going to get in on the act and dispense our rates money freely shouldn't it be called the Ratepayers Womens Triathlon?
Ratepayers naming rights

Good events have a sponsors hierarchy. Naming rights should be reserved for the primary sponsor. If Council was the main sponsor (which would be rare), then we would negotiate TCC's (ratepayers) acknowledgement accordingly.

you may be smarter than the average bear but in human terms that is still quite thick. Here you are making negative judgements about what others are doing and you can't even spell paltry. Poultry, in case you didn't know, has feathers, clucks, crows and goes cock'a'doodle doo. Is that perchance an apt description of YOGI BEAR?
