Pipeline slam dunked

Hayden Evans says he's 'slam dunked” Tauranga City Council attempts to forcibly take a pipeline across his land.
On Thursday, he showed a hearings subcommittee that alternatives remain unexplored to the proposed pipe that is meant to connect two reservoirs to sure-up the water supply to Welcome Bay.

Hayden says the pipeline project won't be done on his land without his approval. Picture by Tracy Hardy.

They can only take land under the Public Works Act when there are no other options, says Hayden.
'They have to demonstrate that this route is absolutely necessary, and they can't.
'There's no way they can because another route they have ruled out is because the other neighbour didn't want them to go down it. Why don't they use section 181 on him?” says Hayden.
'I showed them four other options that they have not looked at,” says Hayden.
'They have admitted they have not looked at all the options.”
The hearing that involved a site visit took half a day.
The commissioners have reserved their decision. It is expected in about a month.
