Councillor Don Ormsby is Taupo's new deputy mayor. He was nominated by Mayor Rick Cooper and elected unopposed on Thursday.

Previous Deputy Mayor Christine McElwee resigned in December, citing personal reasons.
Don Ormsby is also Chairman of the Turangi-Tongariro Community Board and the Regulatory and Hearings Committee.
Christine McElwee retains her position as Councillor.
