Hayden Evans says he'll resign from the Western Bay of Plenty joint road safety committee – but only if that is what the council wants.
Hayden Evans is the only Tauranga City Councillor on the joint road safety committee.
Councillor Hayden Evans will quit the Western Bay of Plenty joint road safety committee if his position there is opposed.
Hayden's continued membership was questioned by Cr Mike Baker at Monday's city council monitoring committee meeting.
Mike Baker questioned Hayden's continued committee membership following his conviction last month on a drink driving charge.
'If council wants me to resign it's no skin off my nose,” says Hayden.
But he adds that he's the only councillor with experience of roading from both construction, and user point of view.
Hayden is the only long distance cyclist on the council and says he's the only all-weather motorcyclist as well.
He's currently training for the Bayfair triathlon on March 21, which he says is a short distance ‘sprint' event with a 20km bike, 7km run and a 750m swim.
The joint road transport committee's main business is discussing a wide range of roading issues, with drink driving figures making up two to three minutes of a two to three hour meeting.
Mayor Stuart Crosby says appointments to committees are made by the full council, and the full council would endorse or make changes to committee positions. The next council meeting is on March 16.
