Royal New Zealand Navy - RNZN - hydrographic specialists are conducting a search exercise with Police on Lake Taupo.
The team, from Littoral Warfare Unit HMNZS Matataua, will be working with the Police National Dive Squad to improve procedures for search operations in fresh water.
The work involves using a zodiac boat and an autonomous underwater vehicle capable of electronically detecting underwater objects and relaying sonar images back to a shore operator.
This morning, RNZN personnel took part in the Taupo District Council Keep New Zealand Beautiful Clean Up. This involved a beach clean-up from 8.30-10.30am near the Hole in One car park.
The hydrographic exercise finishes on 20 September 20.
