There are nine new community cases of Covid-19 today with all of these cases in Auckland.

Deputy Prime Minister Grant Robertson and Director of Public Health Dr Caroline McElnay are providing an update on the current Covid-19 outbreak.

The total number of cases associated with this outbreak is 1131 with 902 of these cases recovered.

All of the cases announced today are linked, with three of these household cases and six are known contacts of current cases.

Of the 15 new cases announced yesterday only one remains unlinked.

There are 13 people in hospital with Covid and three of them are in ICU.

There is one new border case in managed isolation and quarantine.

Yesterday there were 6982 tests done in Auckland and 14,855 tests done nationwide.

Director of Public Health Dr Caroline McElnay says Auckland Public Health is doing surveillance testing at essential services and next week the focus for testing will be on retail and construction.

The Upper Hauraki will move to Alert Level 2 at 11.59pm on Saturday, Deputy Prime Minister Grant Robertson has announced.

This is because all of the tests that have been done in the area are negative aside from the household contacts, says Robertson.

He says Public Health sees that it is now safe to move down to level 2 with the rest of New Zealand aside from Auckland which remains at Alert Level 3.

'Today's case numbers are encouraging,” says Robertson. 'But the job is not yet done.”

Ahead of the weekend Robertson is asking Auckland to remember they are at Alert Level 3.

'Stick to your bubble and stick to the rules.”

Dr McElnay says the Ministry of Health is updating the advice about routine vaccines being given around the same time as the Covid-19 vaccine.

She says the majority of routine vaccines can be given shortly before or after the Covid vaccine.

The only exception is the Zoster vaccine for shingles where there needs to be a gap, she says.

This is to ensure the routine vaccination programme can continue without disruption, says Dr McElnay.
