Person in hospital following Omanu beach incident

4.30pm update: A person has been transported to Tauranga Hospital following being found unresponsive in the water at Omanu.

The person, who is in a critical condition, was treated at the scene by ambulance workers before being taken to hospital.

Earlier, 3.40pm: A person is in a critical condition following being found unresponsive in the water at Omanu.

Police report that a person was found unresponsive in the water at around 3.10pm.

"They are in a critical condition and are being treated by ambulance workers at the scene," says a Police spokesperson.

The person was found in the water along the beach to the east of the Omanu Beach Surf Life Saving Club near the Concord Ave Beach Access off Oceanbeach Rd.

Earlier, 3.30pm

Emergency services are responding to an incident at Omanu Beach.

Police say that officers have just arrived at the location near the Concord Ave Beach Access.
