Two Tauranga crashes under investigation

Police are continuing to investigate two separate crashes which left two people injured in Tauranga.

In the first, a cyclist was flown to Waikato Hospital in a critical condition following a crash in Pyes Pā.

Police were notified at around 1pm on Sunday after a cyclist was found seriously injured on Kennedy Rd.

Police said a helicopter was tasked to transport the cyclist to hospital and that the bike appeared to be the only vehicle involved, with a road closure required.

The serious crash unit was called in to examine the scene, finishing around 4pm.

Meanwhile, another person was airlifted to hospital following a crash on Te Puna Rd around 3.30pm on Sunday.

Police received a report of a car hitting a person and said one person was taken to hospital in serious condition.

The serious crash unit also attended the scene and police said they finished around 10.15pm.

“Police continue to make inquiries into the circumstances of this crash,” a spokesperson said in a statement today.
