UPDATE 2.26PM: Salvage operations are underway today after a trimaran got into trouble in the Tauranga Harbour.
Officials have confirmed that incident occurred at 7.25pm on Wednesday.
There were no reported injuries, and everyone has been rescued safely according to coastguard reports.
One witness told SunLive that the vessel had flipped, while another says it nosedived.
The cause has not been confirmed, though Coastguard Tauranga operations manager Dane Robertson says the conditions were not alarming at the time of the incident.
'It was fortunate timing, as a crew member had just finished their training and overheard the call on the radio, and they were there in about two minutes.”
A spokesperson for the Tauranga Yacht and Power Boat Club has stated that the boat has had its mast removed.
'It's out here in front of the club, it's been de-masted and is still being retrieved at the moment.”
The spokesperson also noted that the boat had nosedived while sailing in a club race. Operations Manager Dane Robertson was not able to confirm the nosedive.
