Some controversial topics are unclear, and are hard for society. For example, Crimea wanted to join
Russia, but Ukraine as a whole did not want it to leave. Should it have? Covid vaccines have saved many lives, but in a very few cases people have become sick and died from vaccination. Should
people have lost their jobs to encouraged/mandated vaccination?
Today there is a strong tendency for media and the government to pick a side, and to judge those who oppose them as unworthy to speak. Like the protestors in Wellington, they are written off as
uneducated or misguided. But, when we stop listening to and respecting other people, it tends to create conflict, within our families, and between NZ communities. The danger of being right is that we forget to care.
The current conflict is splitting apart families in Ukraine and Russia, and their friendships here in NZ. Let's do what we can to support people from Russia and Ukraine by providing an environment in NZ where there can be peace."
