Director-General of Health Dr Ashley Bloomfied is reporting 11,382 new community Covid cases in New Zealand today.

He is providing a live update to media in Wellington.

He says of today's new cases, 412 are re-infections.

"There are 765 people in hospital and 23 deaths.

"The seven day rolling average has increased for all these. For cases it is now 9826, 673 for hospitalisations and 20 for deaths."

Bloomfield is joining Minister for Covid-19 Response Dr Ayesha Verrall in today's live update.

She is expected to announce some new health measures to help New Zealand get through "this dark winter period".

Te Whatu Ora - Health New Zealand CEO Margie Apa will also provide an update from hospitals.
