BOP Regional Council progress results released

Progress results for the Bay of Plenty Regional Council elections have been released on Saturday afternoon.

For the Tauranga General Constituency, five councillors are required. Stuart Crosby, Ron Scott, Paula Thompson, Andrew von Dadelszen and Kat McMillan are the five Tauranga candidates with the most votes received in the preliminary results.

Malcolm Campbell and Doug Leeder have been voted in for Eastern Bay of Plenty, Kevin Winters and Lyall Thurston for Rotorua, Matemoana McDonald for Māuao Māori Constituency, and Jane Nees and Ken Shirley for Western Bay of Plenty.

As the number of candidates did not exceed the number of vacancies, Toi Kai Rākau Iti has been duly declared elected to the Kohi Māori Constituency seat.

For the Ōkurei Māori Constituency, one councillor is required. There are only seven votes separating the two candidates, with Te Taru White receiving 1590 votes, and Raina M Meha receiving 1583 votes in the preliminary results

Kohi Māori Constituency - one required:

As the number of candidates did not exceed the number of vacancies, Toi Kai Rākau ITI has been duly declared elected to the Kohi Māori Constituency seat.

Progress of results:

These initial progress results include all votes returned up to Friday October 7.

On Sunday October 9, the preliminary results including all votes returned Saturday October 8 will be published.

Between October 12-18 the final Bay of Plenty Regional Council election results will be declared.

Guess where the least number of votes were cast.... A forewarning of things to come...? We have Maori Mayors around the country (unfortunately one is a Green Party worker) So who says that quality doesn't come to the surface and need a backdoor. Unfortunately we have 22 candidates for whom a seat at the table isn't available, no matter how many votes they can amass
