Truck‘s “risky manoeuvre” caught on video

Video: Supplied/SunLive.

A Tauranga motorist is expressing their frustration after witnessing a risky manoeuvre by a truck driver, caught on their dash cam last week.

"The driving in general around Tauranga is bad but we all know that," says the motorist, who caught the move heading out of Tauranga towards Hamilton last week.

When shown to police, a spokesperson says they are "always concerned" when matters like this are brought to their attention.

"Road safety is everyone's responsibility," says the spokesperson.

"Police urge motorists not to attempt risky overtaking manoeuvres when they don't have sufficient clear road ahead to complete the action safely.

"If you've witnessed dangerous driving please make a report to police, including registration plate number and make or colour of the vehicle, so we can conduct follow-up enquiries and hold offending drivers accountable for their actions."

I don't think anyone will be surprised that it's a logging truck.... Almost as annoying as ute drivers, but there's fewer of them on the roads.

Normal day in the office

I see nothing new here, being i work on the roads, this is completely normal for tauranga, poor traffic flow as a speed reduction has this kind of draw back. On sh2 to the eastern bay your more likely to see this type of thing mainly round summer, its normal to see 30 odd cars stuck behind a tractor or a campervan due to poor road design for traffic volumes which creates frustration and crashes due to frustrated mistakes... i expect to see a few more deaths out that way during summer sadly... but what would traffic management know about drivers... (oh retesting more than every 60 years to keep drivings up todate would go allobg away to fixing poor road rule knowledge and awareness.)

What Do You Think 'Old Trucker'

my thoughts only on this, it is a bit silly,(BUT) there are NO cars coming and no one was hurt, that Black ute was turning off ,left, and driver was able to slip in to line,i feel give him a break,my driving doing 1,600km return trips 3 times a week 18hr days,in those days slept in truck, had good meals at truck stops, did not drink, just got on with it back and forth, always over weight on return trip,go 300km in top gear before changing gear, met some good dudes in those days, real men,saw a lot of carnage in my time on road, sickening when 200 400 km from help maybe further, with flying doctor radio in truck 30 seconds to answer from anywhere, anyway i feel this guy will not do this again and will learn from this, thanks yadick nice to see you remember me,my driving days are over anyway, signing off Sunlive THANKYOU 10-4 outp[hew.

Hardly blame him

That would have to be one of the most frustrating intersections in the country. A right bottle neck at the best of times. When roads are substandard, human nature is to take risks. That intersection hasn't been improved for 20 years (apart from those stupid plastic poles this council propergates) Just fix the bloody road.

see is a truck in a lane which is a merging lane, had he come out of side rd it would still be same, leave him alone,my thoughts only on this,no one died or hurt, gosh people cannot help themselves sending in videos, sunlive thanks 10-4 out.phew.

@ old trucker

Actually you're right. He is in a merging lane. I have re-watched and re-watched it since you pointed that out. I thought he was on the wrong side of the road forcing oncoming vehicles onto the shoulder. Good call my friend.

yeah the merging lane...

Posted on 11-10-2022 17:41 | By This Guy

The merging lane meant for people pulling out from Cambridge road, the place this moron is overtaking folks is not a passing lane at all, its for traffic turning on to Cambridge road. The actual passing lane ends before those white stripes start. This guy was 100% in the wrong.

Yet more,

tunnel vision from yadick and the old trucker. The truck featured was not only breaking the law by using the turning lane to overtake a slower truck but he was putting right turning traffic in danger, and probably speeding to boot. All locals who use this road daily will know the true reason for this deliberate ignorance. There is nowhere to pass for at least the next 5k which of course means it's harder for him to squeeze out another trip to the port. At least he didn't get past the slow truck so had plenty of time to think about his stupidity and maybe realise he doesn't own the road.

What an idiot

For a start that Cambridge Road intersection is terrible and needed to be fixed decades ago. So this truck has ripped up the passing lane going up the hill stayed in the turning lane and blown straight through. I really hope no-one was trying to turn out of Cambridge rd to go up the kaimais. And yes everyone is correct Tauranga is full of idiot drivers!!

@ Everyone

I'm really confused but now you name the intersection I might take a drive up there to have a look. Thank you for your kind words yet again R. Bell. You should see an Optometrist about that log.

What you won't see

Posted on 14-10-2022 09:59 | By R. Bell

on your quick trip yadick, is most important. You won't see the deliberate tailgating by ignorant logging truck drivers ( not all ) but some, even when fully loaded. You won't see the reckless speeding that has led to trucks losing their load or ending up in the roadside ditch, presenting danger to law abiding motorists. When you support bullies don't expect kind words. They are a menace to us all.

This happened to me a couple of years ago , I was pulling out of Cambridge road in Motorhome when a car came speeding up the road where the truck was. Very near miss.
