Work on the Tauranga stormwater upgrade continues to progress along Cameron Road.

This coming week, work continues from Fifth Avenue to Arundel Street on the eastern side of Cameron Road.

The southbound left lane closure for traffic remains in place, beginning from Third Avenue, where streetscape works are also progressing, says the latest update from Tauranga City Council.

In the coming week, temporary traffic management will be in place at Fifth Avenue with no exit on to Cameron Road while the streetscape works extend across the intersection.

On the western side of Cameron Road, works continue on both the stormwater and wastewater with the site extending north between Fourth Avenue and Sixth Avenue, says council.

"There is a northbound lane closure in place between Third Avenue and Sixth Avenue.

"Stormwater works across the Tenth Avenue intersection are progressing, and we expect the intersection closure to remain in place for five weeks - weather dependent."

Stormwater and streetscape works also continue between Eleventh Avenue and Ninth Avenue, with this section extending to Eighth Avenue in the coming week.

On the eastern side of Cameron Road, streetscape works are continuing between the Fifteenth Avenue and Sixteenth Avenue intersection.

Work on the stormwater upgrade has progressed through the Sixteenth Avenue intersection which remains closed.

This work continues towards 17th Avenue to the mid-block. There is a southbound left lane closure in this section.

Other construction work remains focused on and around many of the Cameron Road intersections, including the major intersections at Fifteenth Avenue and Elizabeth Street, as well as the smaller intersections at: Third Avenue (west), Fourth Avenue (east), Tenth Avenue (west) and Sixteenth Avenue (east).

Work to upgrade the Fifteenth Avenue intersection is continuing. Work will progress on each of the four corners, one at a time, and is currently underway near the south-east (Academy Motor Inn) corner.

Council says, temporary traffic management including lane closures will be in place throughout these works.

The signalised intersection will also be maintained during these works.

The northbound left lane remains closed from Fourth Avenue to Elizabeth Street and around the corner into Elizabeth Street (west), as well as a southbound left lane closure on the eastern side of Cameron Road from 214 Cameron Road to the mid-block between Elizabeth Street and First Avenue, as the team continues work on the intersection upgrade.

"With planting season beginning this month, work will start in the coming weeks with planting and mulching in the new garden beds.

"The team is looking forward to these gardens taking shape as they will help to complete the look and feel of the streetscape areas.

"Please take care driving through the construction zones and be kind to the Cameron Road Joint Venture team, who are more than happy to help if you need assistance finding your way through the site."

Intersection work:

  • Elizabeth Street (west): there is a northbound left lane closure on Cameron Road from Third Avenue to the Elizabeth Street intersection, extending into Elizabeth Street. Elizabeth Street is still accessible for northbound traffic using the right-hand lane.
  • Elizabeth Street (east): there is a southbound left lane closure on Cameron Road from 214 Cameron Road (Toyota) to the mid-block between Elizabeth Street and First Avenue.
  • Third Avenue (west): the northbound left turn from Cameron Road into Third Avenue (west) is closed as the team works on the stormwater and streetscape upgrade. We expect this to reopen in coming weeks. The exit from Third Avenue (west) on to Cameron Road remains open.
  • Fourth Avenue intersection (east): is closed. Access to Cameron Road is available at Third Avenue.
  • Tenth Avenue intersection (west): this intersection is now closed as the team works on the stormwater upgrade. We expect this closure to be in place for five weeks (weather dependent). Access to Cameron Road is available at Eleventh Avenue and Ninth Avenue.
  • Fifteenth Avenue intersection: temporary traffic management is in place including a southbound left lane closure.
  • Sixteenth Avenue/Cameron Road (east): is closed. Access to Sixteenth Avenue (east) remains via Devonport Road.

Please note, above works are weather dependent.

Unbelievable

I can't believe how long this upgrade is taking & the amount of disruption that it is causing. Why can't they complete one part & then move onto the next rather than closing off whole parts of the city when no work is actually being done. Having driven along Cameron Road into the city at the weekend it was an utter shambles. I honestly can't understand why there is no work taking place on evenings or weekends to get this project completed?? The cost per km to get this work completed is astounding when compared to other countries, and an astonishing waste of taxpayers money and lack of resources & efficiencies.

Lane closures

When lanes must be closed, ie Northbound on 15th ave at the moment, why can't they re-phase the Cameron road lights to let a few more cars through? At the moment you're lucky to get more than 3 cars across before the lights change back to amber so there are frustrated drivers running both amber and red lights. 6.45am this morning and the queue is back from Cameron road to halfway down 15th ave hill.
