Update, 9.50am: State Highway 29 has now reopened, following an earlier serious crash near the intersection of SH 29 and Hopkins Rd.

Motorists are advised to allow extra time as there may be some delays in the area.

Earlier, 9.40am: State Highway 29 is closed following a serious crash.

NZTA Waka Kotahi report that due to a serious crash near the intersection of SH29 and Hopkins Rd, SH29 is closed between Hopkins Rd and SH27.

"Delay your journey or allow extra time for detour," says an NZTA spokesperson.

An alternative route is as follows: 

Eastbound traffic: left to Hopkins Rd, on to Hinuera Rd, right to Puketutu Rd, right to SH27 to return to SH29. Reverse for westbound traffic.

It is unknown at this stage if there are any injuries.
