One of the teams in the BOPCA Baywide competition is endeavouring to win three titles in the one season following their win on Saturday.

Bond & Co Mount Maunganui bowled their way to victory in the 2023/24 BOPCA Venture Developments T20 Championship Final on the weekend, after posting a gettable target in the title decider.

Squaring off with long-time rivals Element IMF Cadets at Blake Park on Saturday, February 17, Mount Maunganui won the toss and backed their strong top-order to deliver the runs.

Batting on their home strip, Mount Maunganui made a good start, before losing Niven Dovey for 24, with 35 runs on the board.

Cadets came back with two quick wickets, before Mount Maunganui legendary all-rounder Peter Drysdale, arrived at the crease.

Peter, top scored with an unbeaten 38 at a run a ball, with Mount Maunganui restricted to 115 for the loss of five wickets.

Fergus Lellman was the best of the Cadets bowlers with two wickets for six runs.

Cadets entered the batting arena full of confidence, and at 88/4, seemed on track for victory needing just 28 runs with six wickets in hand.

The Mount Maunganui bowling team knuckled down big-time, with five wickets falling at the 89, 90, 92, 94 and 100 run marks.

Cadets finished their turn at bat at 103 for the loss of 9 wickets, to hand Mount Maunganui their fifth Baywide T20 title.

Peter Drysdale, Tony Goodin and Carl Brungar, took two wickets apiece, to greatly assist their side to lift the T20 Trophy aloft in victory.

Cadets, who came from fourth spot in the qualifying rounds, posted 149/4 against Generation Homes Lake Taupo, before restricting the Taupo side to 128/6 in semi-final action.

Cadets batsmen, Andrew Mascall, hit the finals day highest score of 67 runs off 51 balls.

Mount Maunganui never let Eves Realty Greerton into the game in the other semi-final, in grabbing a seven wicket win. Henry Conway took three wickets for 19 runs while Niven Dovey top scored with 34 runs.

Bond & Co Mount Maunganui will now endeavour to become the first club to win all three BOPCA Baywide competition titles in the one season, if they can add the Williams Cup to the Bay of Plenty Cup and Baywide T20 titles.
