Nighttime road closures will be happening from Sunday, February 25 for five nights, on State Highway 29, over the Kaimai range.

NZTA Waka Kotahi advise that due to asphalt resurfacing from Sunday, February 25 - Thursday, February 29, SH29 will be closed from 8pm - 4.30am.

The closure points on the western side of the Kaimai range is at the SH29/SH24 intersection and SH29/SH28 intersection.

The closure point on the eastern side of the Kaimai range is at the SH29/Cambridge Road intersection.

"It is suggested that motorists consider these closure times when planning their journey, and where possible take alternative detour routes," says an NZTA spokesperson.

Alternative routes are:

North:SH2 to SH26 to SH24 or SH27 (and vice versa) - Not HPMV Compliant and recommended for light vehicles.

North: SH24, SH27, SH26, SH2 via Karangahake Gorge 

South:SH2 to SH33 to SH5 to SH1 to SH29 (and vice versa) - HPMV Compliant, however

South: all vehicles: SH28, SH5, SH30, SH33, SH2 via Rotorua 

South: light vehicles: SH28, SH5, SH36 via Rotorua

Weekday road closures on SH 29 from Hopkins Rd to (SH27) Hinuera

There are also weekday road closures on SH 29 from Hopkins Rd to (SH27) Hinuera while resurfacing is undertaken.

SH29 Hinuera Rehabilitation works will continue until Thursday February 29 within Hinuera Township and Hinuera Rd on SH29.

The works are being undertaken using weekday road closures which will remain in place between 6am and 6pm, Monday - Friday only, with SH29 reopen during nights, from 6pm through to 6am, and weekends under temporary speed limits throughout the duration of the work.

For detours:

SH29 Westbound (towards Hamilton) SH29 - Right onto SH27, Left onto Puketutu Road, Left onto Hinuera Road, Hinuera road continue onto Hopkins Road and back onto SH29.

SH29 Eastbound (towards Tauranga) SH29, Left onto Hopkins Road continue onto Hinuera Road to Puketutu Road, Right onto Puketutu Road, Right onto SH27, Left onto SH29.

Nights and weekends SH29 road will be unsealed and under temporary speed limits.
