On Saturday, it’s time for a day of fun at the annual Apata ‘Have a Go Try-athlon’.
Calling all kids aged between 5 and 13, the highly anticipated annual Apata Have a Go Try-athlon, hosted by Pahoia School, is set to take place this Saturday, March 23, at the picturesque Omokoroa Domain.
Starting bright and early at 9am, this event promises to be a thrilling day out for the whole family. Participants can look forward to exciting spot prizes, placegetter medals, and above all, a focus on fostering active lifestyles and embracing the spirit of participation.
"This is an awesome community event with the goal of promoting health and wellbeing amongst our local tamariki," says Pahoia School deputy principal, Helen Maxey.
The age categories for the Have a Go Try-athlon are:
5 - 6 yr olds: Swim/Splash 25m, bike 400m and 200m run.
7 - 8 yr olds: Swim 50m, bike 750m and 800m run.
9 - 10 yr olds: Swim 75m, bike 1.5km and 1.2km run.
11 - 13 yr olds: Swim 100m, bike 3.0km and 2.0km run.
Bikes must be roadworthy and no E-bikes are allowed. Bike helmets, shirts and shoes must be worn during the cycle leg. Participants must obey the road code, marshals and officials at all times, and the course may be shortened or changed.
Helen says the event also serves as an excellent fundraiser for the school.
“This year's aim is to raise funds for the replacement of the school playground, a cause close to the hearts of the school community.”
Organised by dedicated parents and staff of Pahoia School, the event is a testament to the collective effort and commitment of the community.
"We're incredibly grateful for the commitment from both whānau and teachers," says Helen.
For those attending as spectators or weary athletes in need of refreshment, a variety of food stalls will be set up on the day.
